On my list of cars I want
Will probably purchase when I'm sixty

Corner carving precludes having an open jar of Grey Poupon, and we can't have that.

its my firm belief that there is no car in existence, nor will there ever be, that can do it all. So the only logical solution to the ride/handling dilemma is to not try, but to get a "ride" car and a "handling" car and a bigger garage.

These cars roam America; you mean French's.

Plochman's Kosciusko. Perhaps not like a sir, but at least like a blueblood.

That takes me back. He's been gone for quite some time now, right?

Absolutely correct. And I'd also point out that Continental Town Cars absolutely can do that, if by carving corners you mean literally scraping the road surface with the fenders thanks to excessive body roll.

He writes for Hooniverse now ; local boy done good.

Yes it is.
Road cars are road cars. Race cars are race cars. And sports cars are wannabes.
You might as well own a comfortable and good looking road car since sports cars have too many compromises and are far from being optimized for ideal performance.
After reading some books about suspension geometry (I was convinced I was eventually going to make a pro-touring car), I decided it just wasn't worth it.
I honestly think the corner carving mentality is a bit amatuerish. Nobody cares about the lap times you made while you cone-dodging in the Food City parking lot. You are not a professional racer; leave racing to the professionals.

I drove a 90's caprice on a testdrive and took it on my usual route and was cracking up. I had always head these American land yachts drive like boats but was not prepared. It seriously felt like driving my dad's boat. Best part was at my turn around point there is a warehouse with a gravel lot so I did a donut to turn around. Felt like I was TJ Hooker.

Just think of the possibilities
Get one o' dese old Lincolns
Drop in a Coyote five oh and six speed automatic
Keep the exhaust quiet and don't touch the suspension
Perfect highway couch

I always liked the Mark III-V coupes. Nothing says 'screw y'all I'm for me' more than a 20 foot coupe with a 7.5 liter engine.

I know it's not the same but when I see these I always think back to my dad's Dodge Royal Monaco in Saudi Arabia as a child. Identical to this one below.
I guess it's just the headlights, the raised edges along the bonnet and the sheer length on the bonnet too. We used to use the windscreen and the bonnet as a slide when my dad wasn't looking (one day he did and he chased me for ages and it had to hide in one of the tennis courts). Happy days.

There will always be a special place in my heart for big ol' luxo-barges. Someday, one will be mine.

I almost traded a chevy cavalier for one of these. Shoulda woulda coulda but I was having problems affording my gas bill at the time so going to 9 mpg wasn't going to help. In retrospect I can say it was the world's worst decision.

I myself prefer the old Imperials~
Float like a butterfly, sting like a butterfly!

Yuck, not for me. It's great if that's what you like, but I have less than 0 interest in owning one of these, let alone driving it.

But a 302 in one of these just wouldn't feel right. My Idea would be a custom built 520, with all modern internals, like an oversized Coyote, tuned for max torque and as you said make it totally silent.

I want mine back! The 12mpg was worth it to see peoples faces when the headlight doors opened. Also the sound of a huge v8 with a completely rotted off exhaust. I will have one again...

When you've got ride quality as great as that, corners can wait.

Suit yourself...that just means more boats for me!

The headlight doors are the world's sweetest invention. I would be flashing my lights all the time with those.

If that's your thing man, by all means, have at it. The hobby is about owning and driving what makes you happy, not anyone else. I will say I'd rather see hundreds of these things running around than any more "stanced" out car dropped to have 1/16" ground clearance with tires half the width of the wheels and an 45* of negative camber.
